2008.06.21 Rizal Park

The first time I actually set foot on Rizal Park.
It's always been Luneta Park to me, and I think it will stay that way.
Bad habits are hard to change.

Lost ten bucks to my default travel partner. My bet being that The Orchidarium is most likely beside The Planetaruim. Drats... The Japanese Garden separated them! But I made sure defeat was sweet and gave her ten pesos in denominations of one 5 Peso coin, four 1 Peso coins, and ten 10 centavo coins =)

*Shot with a Canon ixus i. Not bad considering I see this camera inferior to the very old ixus

2008.05.24 Taj

Andanita Taj Lakeview Hotel & coffeeshop is a warm, cozy, and friendly place in Tagaytay.
I didn't have time to explore the menu, but had a dish and sidekick shared another. If that was an indication of the other dishes on the menu, then I want to try more when I drive by Tagaytay again. Anyway, some photos of the place.

P.S. More on the place at Sidekick's page.

Why PNKY Cafe in Baguio is a great place to dine.

Cuz at PNKY Cafe it's great value, and it's not that I'm just being a cheapo, it's great tasting food with a good sized serving!

Just check this out. A diet soda for PHP 30 and strawberry ice tea at PHP 55.
They don't put a price on ambiance and friendly service, but that makes an impact too. A positive impact in this case =) It's at times, in the little details.

Now compare it to this meal at restaurant B.
2008.04.19 Milagros Dancehall Collective

After passing by Instituto Cervantes for the Dia Del Libro affair...

...we trouped to saGuijo for the album launch of Milagros Dancehall Collective; wanting to dance, move around and buy an album. Was one of the first (she was second) customers to arrive and I even won an album! Yeh! I would have still seriously paid for one but it feels just so much sweeter to win one! =D Felt like a lottery. I haven't won anything since i was seven years old (It was a red 3D electric fan.) So, you can pretty much imagine my childlike joy.

Oh! And entrance was a peso! Yep, one (1) Philippine Peso. Beat that for a feel good feeling! Who ever thought of that; most likely the Milagros Dancehall Collective crew, it was a great idea! Lovely idea. Ang sarap ng pakiramdam =)

It had also been a while since I had eagerly whipped out a camera to take photos, while allowing the music to take me into the zone. The adrenaline rush was still there, the technique that goes with it needs practice though =) ...

2008.04.07 Pila, Laguna

A quick run to see Pila, Laguna with my default road trip sidekick.

It's really not that far. It's a small town considered to be the Vigan of the south.

Highlights? I was very impressed with the interior of the Church of Pila. It's not old,and I don't think it's trying to be, but who ever was in charge of the remodeling had better taste than many; to my liking at least. Other highlights of the town would have been info on the excavations, most probably found at the Pila Museum. But being a Monday; more so a holiday, it was closed. The Philippines’ oldest dictionary was also printed in this place. I wonder if that's at the museum or elsewhere in the country. And of course...the old homes along Rizal Street and around the town plaza (and it a large plaza) are just a joy and a change from the normal city scape. And the place is sooooooo clean!

2008.03.21 Zambales

Off to Zambales to see the lighthouse at Capones Island. Wohoo!
But...err. The shores were too rough for the landing craft (sigue, banka) to make it this time.

But, there was tons and tons of fun to be had on the shores of Capones Island =D

Since we didn't make it to the lighthouse, i'll include this link when we did make it up there. Not that great a set of pictures, but one must do with a phone cam and not complain. At least I've photos to remember how it was.

And for a better rounded view of the trip to Zambales, you can check out the following links posted by the members of the travel party:

2008.03.09 Puerto Princesa Day 2

The Puerto Pricesa Subterranean River National Park
A Natural World Heritage Site

Originally established in 1971, the park covers a land area of 22,202 hectares. (MALAWAK!) It was declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site in 1999.

It is an 8.2 kilometer underground river that flows to the sea, and is believed to be the longest navigable underground river in the world. Although, tourists are only allowed 1.2-2.4 kilometers. I know the one in Borneo is very vast too, but I have no idea about it's navigability.

Aside from the river cruise, there are other things to explore but we didn't have the time. There is the Lions Cave, Kawili Cave and the Daylight hole. All done by trekking to the areas. There is also a 5 km jungle trek that leads to the caves of the underground river. Monkeys and monitor lizards everywhere. On our particular tour day the thieving monkeys were not present because of dogs in the area. The monkeys are known to steal anything in plastic bags thinking it is...

Land, arrange Puerto Pricesa Underground River Tour, get to accommodations, check in, sip the complimentary drink (coco pandan, loved it), grab tricycle, and head off to lunch!!! Wohoo! After lunch we hit Honda bay. When that was over, a quick shower and off to Kinabuchs! (but the wood worms were out of stock, pity). It was suppose to be Ka Lui's but it was packed, so we just made a reservation for the next evening.

2008.02.13 Bangkok (Day 3)

Silom Village is a recreation of an old Thai village.
It has shopping arcades, were you can find Thai handicrafts, silver, cloths etc.(even a hidden store that sells "evaluation or complete swatch samples" of bags). It has lots of eating too, and even has a village inn, which isn't bad for the price range between 1,299-3,700 baht.

Anyway, we really went there for the Ruenthep Room, which showcases Thai Classical Dance, accompanied with a Thai dinner, specially created to cater to non spicy tongues.

2008.02.16 Mt. Pinatubo

She says, "How about Mt. Pinatubo?".
"Tara!" he giddily says. And that quick, they were there.

Well, not really, she had to counter check web sites he sent, they had to negotiate where to stay the night, (food menus, always seem to be the discussion points), and she had to stand the little thing of him not knowing how to spell or pronounce Seoberol. Or was it Seobrebol...Seaberol? Well, whatever!

Anyway, I'm very glad I did this trek now (while wala pang atritis). There is no telling if i can do it in the future or if I want to do it again. Even the lady who drove us from Subic to Clark has done it only once. And she shuttles folks to and from Pinatubo a lot. Thanks Djong!

It's hard to explain the gargantuan scope of the damage of the eruption even when you are there. It seems to sink in very slowly. Well, to me at least. It sinks in more when I see area maps, satellite maps and the like, and how huge the area is. This was not the case when I saw Pampanga and Tarlac covere...

Canon EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 USM II, Canon EW-60C Lens Hood, Kenko L37UV Super Pro super multi-coated Filter 58mm

For sale as a set or individually according to your needs.

Not your normal kit lens. This one is the one sold for the market in Japan and has USM or Ultra Sonic Motor (you can see that marked on the lens front in red).

Yep, it is much much faster on the auto focus, and quiet too! It is not the new one with IS (Image Stabilization; 3rd reincarnation, that particular version gives me nightmares of too many moving clanky parts though, which is unlike the confidence I get from the IS on the 17-55mm IS USM or the 17-85mm IS USM).

I primarily find it useful and sharp for crowded "quick draw" flash photography at f/5.6 to f/8, where you want the smallest package as well as the lightest, with out the worry of scratching a heavier much more expensive 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM. It's a good work horse.

Canon EFS 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, Lens Hood EW-83E, Kenko Pro 1 Digital filter

= UPDATE: PULLED OUT. =

For sale as a set or individually according to your needs.

If one wants unbelievably wide angle photos, the EFS 10-22mm is a fantastic lens for 1.6 crop factor bodies. Sharp (very) and pretty fast. Great for architecture, landscapes, and I often use it for very tight spaces like clubs and bars to get close to the subject without having other objects between me and my subject.

PHP 24,600.00 Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM lens sn 96106274.

2007.10.19 Limpias

Drove to Limpias, in Cantabria, the northern part of Spain for a wedding.
It was a long long drive from Madrid.
Eight hours I think, with stop overs here and there,
but i somehow didn't feel the strain of driving. Loved it!

My mobile work station...well, not that mobile any more.
The comfy chair that I haven't used much. Should break it in to my taste.
And lastly just a center piece.

2007.10.17 Lost in El Corte Ingles

T'was my first time our to the great "museo" de El Corte Ingles this trip.
The place is so damn large! Anyway, went there to do some errands. Around here the story is...each time I arrive there is something to fix. A bathroom's shower area was leaking so, off to get silicon to redo the whole shower area and grout the tiles etc...

Had the chance to "get lost" in the toy area...and boy they have different toys here this year.

Also checked out the electronics area and the computer area. The computer area is not complete as it use to be. It use to be like a one stop shop...like a showroom of sorts.

After some dizzy window shopping I got lost in the wrist watch area. It was agony. Soooooo many nice watches! Iba ang mga Casio models dito! Mas maganda!

Had a chance to check out Jordi Labanda notebooks for someone and It was too much for me. ANG DAMI! I'll have to go back when my head is clear. Muntik na ako umiyak sa choices! Hahaa!
